ARES is an innovative modular multi-mission vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) unmanned tilt-wing aerial system (UAS). It comprises a common, optionally manned Flight Module with interchangeable Mission Payload Modules. ARES is designed with a small landing footprint to enable shipboard and expeditionary operations as well as provide embedded multi-mission C4I, ISR, combat, and logistics support to small distributed combat forces operating over extended distances and in complex terrain. ARES’ multi-mission modularity is explicitly focused on addressing affordability challenges of meeting multiple emerging UAS needs with a single VTOL UAS platform. Modularity provides affordability and supportability benefits with the mission flexibility to rapidly reconfigure Mission Payload Modules that significantly reduce logistics footprint and cost. ARES was developed by PiAC and the ARES Demonstration Vehicle (DV) was initially developed with Lockheed Martin under a DARPA program, but is now continuing development under PiAC. PiAC is continuing the development and is preparing the vehicle for flight demonstration and operation.
